Excursions
In addition to the main program, we also provide participants with a possibility to join us for excursions specifically designed for those interested in medical history. You may register to all activities individually on the registration page.
1. Historical tour of Helsinki
After the first day of sessions, a historian specialised in the history of Helsinki will take participants on an evening tour of the city. This is a great chance to get to know the city centre, catch some iconic sights, and learn small details about past life in Helsinki. Instead of a typical sightseeing walk, this tour will place a special emphasis on the history of healthcare, medical science, and university life. The tour is suitable both for first-time visitors and those who are more knowledgeable of Helsinki. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as the group will be walking several kilometres!
2. Visit to the Botanical garden
On Thursday the participants in this excursion have a possibility to visit the University of Helsinki Botanical garden in Kaisaniemi. Situated 15 minutes away from the congress venue and close to the nearby hotels, it is a relaxing place to explore after a long day of sessions. The gardens as well as the greenhouses host a number of medicinal and otherwise beneficial plants, many of which have an interesting cultivation history in the Nordic region. Please note that the congress dinner takes place on Thursday evening after this excursion, so participants that require longer to get ready may need to prioritise their time accordingly.

3. Guided tour of the Meilahti hospital area
On Friday, after the sessions and keynote lectures have ended, participants can join a tour of the Meilahti Hospital Area. The hospital complex, initially built in the 1960s, has seen a number of renovations and is a showcase of modern healthcare architecture. On the tour, we will acquaint ourselves with the Tower Hospital and the Triangle Hospital, both of which are parts of the HUS Helsinki University Hospital. We will also visit the nearby Meilahti Campus housing the University of Helsinki Faculty of Medicine. The tour will be guided by medical professionals with personal experience of the location.
